    Jon Crocker's trip to Goodwood

The MGB ran beautifully on the 400-mile round trip to Goodwood Revival taking B roads and A roads where possible makes the journey longer but far more fun. Although after the summer heatwave the September air felt chilly with the top off, so my wife, now nicknamed Mrs Two Hats, found her own solution to keep the cold wind out!

BCC has displayed at Revival for many years, but this year JC had a day off with all the family. A fantastic event as ever some great cars, great racing and of course the air display by Spitfire and Hurricane.

£500k investment in multi-pallet Matsuura milling machine

£500k investment in multi-pallet Matsuura milling machine

WES Engineering Solutions Group, based in Redruth, has invested nearly £500k in a brand new top of the range CNC milling machine as a consequence of market growth and product development, expanding their 24/7 machine running capabilities by 200%.

James Gazzard, Group Commercial Director confirms: “2021 has been a huge success for us. We’ve grown our repeat client base by 20%, developed new products and expanded our order book by 50%. We forecast 43% growth across the group for 2022/23 and this latest investment is in direct response to customer demand.”

Gazzard continues: "The latest investment will allow us to produce brake calipers and associated parts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with only minimal operator input." In the last year the company have achieved new routes to market across Europe as well as the development of new brake caliper products for Landrover, Porsche, Mercedes and Datsun, amongst others.

"With all the new orders coming in, despite a fleet of advanced machinery and a brilliant, highly skilled and experienced workforce, we simply couldn’t keep up with demand. This is where the new CNC machining centre steps in – solving production volumes, shortening on-time delivery and opening up new opportunities. This latest investment allows us to manufacture on a constant cycle as the Matsuura CNC H-Plus 300 enables us to double our lights out running capabilities, halves our running times and significantly enhances our commercial and production efficiencies.”

Reducing the reliance on skilled personnel, through advanced machinery automation is an ongoing solution to the limited skilled recruitment pool the manufacturing sector so commonly experiences.

Gazzard concludes: “We’re huge ambassadors of skills training and apprenticeships. In fact, the new cell leader for the expanded milling section was one of our former apprentices.

We really value our staff and have a number of skilled mechanical engineer positions available. However, accessing the talent is a key concern for the industry. So, we grow our people from the ground up. Our apprentice programme thrives in our low to medium volume, precision engineering manufacturing departments and we’re looking forward to expanding with at least a further three new apprentices this year.”

BCC Become Official Stockists for Authentic Girling Brakes

BCC Become Official Stockists for Authentic Girling Brakes

BCC have become official stockists and distributors for the new range of authentic uprated Girling brake calipers. General manager, Jon Crocker, explains "BCC has established a reputation for selling the best quality, British made, uprated brake calipers on the market. Adding Girling branded calipers to our portfolio fits perfectly with the BCC ethos due to the long and rich history associated with Girling products."

The new range features 4 pot aluminium brake calipers made from aerospace-grade aluminium to replace classic Girling, Lockheed, and Dunlop brakes originally fitted to the likes of Jaguar, Triumph, MG, Austin Healey, and Jensen vehicles from the 1950's, 60's, and 70's.

BCC commits to achieving Net Zero targets

BCC commits to achieving Net Zero targets

The manufacturing sector generally uses a lot of energy in order to process or produce new components. BCC are no different and use a lot of electric to run the factory which is operating in some capacity 24/7. Commercial Director, James Gazzard, explains “Having identified the opportunity to measure and improve our environmental impact we signed up to the South West Manufacturing Service’s ‘Make it Net Zero’ program with the intention of achieving zero impact on the environment as soon as possible.” The company already has relatively good green credentials with solar panels covering the roof and a number of environmental programs in place to reduce their carbon footprint, but there is always more that can be done.

SWMAS have produced a report which measures the organisations existing carbon footprint and provides a number of potential actions to further improve this in the future, “based on the report’s findings and recommendations we will be working towards a 50% reduction in carbon in the next few years”, added Mr Gazzard, “we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment for the benefit of current and future generations".
